Road Trip: The Southwest

Road Trip: The Southwest

8-Day Road Trip through Zion, Arches,Monument Valley, Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon & the Grand Canyon.

DAY 1 | Vegas
Brunch & Cirque de Soleil on the strip

DAY 2 | Zion National Park
Trails: Canyon Overlook Trail , Angel's Landing, The Narrows (Was closed due to rain / flash flood)
We drove that night to Arches in hopes of saving some time. It was a terrible idea as we drove in pitch black darkness in the pouring rain for 6 hours. Not advised.

DAY 3 | Arches National Park
This park is incredible. It feels as though your on a different planet. Watched a storm roll in and out to reward those who stayed with a full on double rainbow. We ran around during sunset because the light changes so fast and the colors are just breathtaking.

DAY 5 | Monument Valley
We passed through Monument Valley on our drive to Arizona. Definitely worth a 5 hour detour.

DAY 6 | Horseshoe Bend & Antelope Canyon
We went to Horseshoe Bend for sunrise and sunset. It is hands down better at dawn. Get up early and go. The soft pastel colors light up the rocks and sky so beautifully compared to the harsh tones in the evening. For Antelope Canyon, be prepared. They schedule tours all at the same time so there's a hundred people swarming through this tiny slot canyon. We didn't go for the sun beam so make sure you check timing if you want to see that. If you're looking for pro-fesh shots, you must book the photographer's tour and you will need a tripod.

DAY 7 & 8 | Grand Canyon National Park
This was the last stop on our grand tour and it wasn't as grand as we thought it was going to be. Maybe because we were looking down doesn't do a justice to a week of looking up? Not sure? I'm sure if you did the week long hike to the bottom and camped down there it'd be different, but for us, in the grand scheme of things, it was kind of a let down *gasp*

TIPS: Bring a light rain jacket. Mountain weather is spontaneous and changes fast. You never know what's going to happen. And know that rain makes for some beautiful shots.

SHOULDA, COULDA, WOULDA: We skipped Bryce National Park after getting some bad advice and have some real regrets on missing that beauty. Would've spent another day at the least at Zion, maybe we could've done the Narrows then.
